Media Images of Canadian Women in the Late 19th Earlier 20th Century
The media has perpetuated certain female stereotypes. They have been key in setting ideals that women should strive towards. Although this is often seen as a modern occurrence, in fact, it has been happening for more than one hundred years. As early as the late 19th century, the media projected an image to itÂ’s viewers that their was an ideal body image, that having a man was the only way to be fulfilled, and that through the use of consumer products, women could acquire true happiness. In contrast, the feminist vision debunked these stereotypes and sought to free women from these ideal chains that were continually woven around them by the media.
